Joe's take on The Smoking Apple

Friday night we were bored and I was craving some good BBQ, we didn't want to travel very far so we decided to hit up the local BBQ joint known as the smoking apple Lance and I had been to the same building years before when it was known as ma and pa's and we liked it so why not believe that good food would follow in the building's future? When we got there the smell was amazing, it was like a smoky fist punched us right in the face. We took a long look at the menu and we both decided on the 2 meat platter. I got beef brisket and spicy cajun sausage, each plate comes with 3 sides so i selected the mac n' cheese, potato salad, and a dinner roll. I was shocked by how fast the service was, we put our order in and got our food in less than 5 minutes. The food was amazing! the beef brisket is not sliced, it is pulled and super super moist. The cajun sausage was way bigger than I thought it would be but that was ok because this sausage is amazing! The skin has that snap to it while the inside is tender and spicy (not head sweating spicy but zesty). The sides were great as well, the potato salad and the mac n' cheese were both fresh and perfect. The only thing i wish was better was their bread. The roll was good but it was super dry and it tasted like a roll i could go buy in bulk at wal-mart. I found myself wishing that they could just give me a slice of home made bread, that would have been amazing! Two of the best things about this BBQ were that it was good even without the sauce, sometimes people get so fixed on the sauce when really it can hide the flavor of mediocre meat. The smoking apple on the other hand has amazing meat and the sauce only adds to the flavor! Their sauce has a definite vinegar zest to it and it is AMAZING we put it on everything including the mac n' cheese, and the potato salad. The second best thing was that the smoking apple left us full which is sometimes hard to do. Overall i'd give this place 4 out of 5 stars for BBQ (keep in mind i've eaten some real southern BBQ in my life). I would highly recommend that if you are in lindon utah and you want restaurant that doesn't feel super commercialized or crowded that you hit up The Smoking Apple.
